2023 Interior Design Trends to Inspire You

2023 Interior Design Trends

As 2022 quickly draws to a close, designers, architects, and homeowners are looking forward to the new and exciting design trends of 2023. Not only have brands like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Behr announced their signature colors of the year of 2023, but interior designers and other experts in the field are looking to other trends that their clients are looking forward to in the new year.

Here are the top 5 interior design trends we're looking forward to in 2023.

Warm Earth Tones

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year, Redend Point, and Behr’s color of the year, Blank Canvas, are both warm earth tones, which indicate that these colors are here to stay in 2023. Stacy Garcia, CEO and Chief Inspiration Officer at Stacy Garcia Inc. says that basic gray and stark white are out and creamy off-whites and warm grays are in.

Art Deco

At the beginning of 2020, many designers predicted that Art Deco designs of the 1920s would make a return in the 2020s. It seems that this more decorative trend will make a return in 2023 as people move away from the extreme minimalism seen in the interior design world during the late 2010s.

This desire for more decorative styles seems a natural shift from minimalism, especially because people have spent more time in their homes the past two years due to the pandemic.

The characteristic features of art deco include simple, clean shapes, symmetry, and simple repeated ornamental shapes inspired by nature such as sunbeams and florals.

One of the best examples of Art Deco architecture and style is the Chrysler Building in New York. The spire includes stylized sunrays, a favorite feature of the Art Deco style.

Curves & Arches

Arched doorways are making a comeback! If you’re looking to include an arched exterior or interior steel door in your home, contact All the Details for a consultation.

Curves are making a return in architecture and in decorative accessories. Expect to see curved couches and other furniture as well as arched doorways in interior spaces.

Butler’s Pantries

Butler’s pantries are predicted to be popular in 2023. These small spaces to the side of the kitchen can act as an extra storage space for pantry items, a coffee bar, or anything else you imagine it to be.

According to Realtor.com, historically, butler’s pantries were dedicated spaces used to store a family’s prized silverware and china and a butler would keep this room under lock and key, and sometimes the butler would sleep in this room.

Today, butler’s pantries are spaces to the side of the kitchen that can act as an extra storage space for food, a dedicated coffee bar, or a place for food preparation. David Kallie, president and CEO of Dimension Inc., a home design, build, and remodeling firm based out of Wisconsin, told The Spruce that he predicts butler’s pantries will be concealed or hidden. “New in concealed kitchen design is the secret butler’s pantry…hidden behind a matching cabinetry panel or a sliding ‘wall’ door."

The trend towards “hidden” butler’s pantries could lend to utilizing steel and aluminum to create an outswing or sliding door with frosted glass.

Bold Colors

Behr’s colors of the year for 2023 include Cinnamon, Starry Night Blue, and North Sea Green.

In addition to earth tones, many other chosen colors of the year seem to predict a desire for bold color. Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends 2023 Palette includes Cinnamon, a warm brown with orange undertones, Starry Night Blue, a dark navy, and North Sea Green, a teal green with a gray undertone.

“The untextured, minimalist look is phasing out,” Amy Youngblood, the owner and principal designer of Amy Youngblood Interiors, says. “People want character and dimension in their spaces, especially kitchens, and will be using more texture in stone and tiles and more use of color instead of basic white.”
